Romans 3:23
All
have
sinned
and
fallen
short
Some have said that Sonja and I had made a huge sacrifice by going to Thailand to work with the Hmong. But the real sacrifice was Jesus Christ’s giving of His life and becoming a sacrifice for our sins by being nailed to a cross. His loving sacrifice gives all of us the assurance of eternal life if you choose to accept it. Let me explain.
The Bible states that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). What is sin? Sin is anything that goes against God’s standard. I remembered a day when I was about six years old and I wanted to ride my bike with my friend to a place where I was told by my father not to go. Just as I crossed that “line” my father drove past in his truck and caught me in the act! I told him that I was just turning around, but I knew (and he knew) what I was doing. Even if I only disobeyed my father this one time, I was guilty, I was a sinner. Have you ever lied like I did? Have you ever cheated? Have you ever gotten angry? Have you ever had a selfish thought? What’s more than that, Ephesians 2:3 states that we are born sinners. We are “by nature, children of wrath.” So all of us are sinners and our sin has caused us to “fall short of the glory of God.” (i.e We have failed to meet God’s standard of being perfect in how we live out our lives.)
